Who we are

Pinly is operated by Trendlaboratories Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14811852), with a registered office at Hub 11, Pepper House, Pepper Road, Hazel Grove, Stockport, SK5 7DP, United Kingdom. When this policy says “we”, “us”, or “Pinly”, that’s who we mean.

What we collect and why

We only collect what we need to run the service.

Account information

When you sign up, we store your first name, email address, and — if you sign in with Apple or Google — a profile picture URL. We use this to identify your account and personalise the app. Legal basis: performance of a contract — this data is necessary to provide the service.

Round data

When you record a round, we store the course you played, the date and time you started and finished, and your stroke count for each hole. This is the core of what Pinly does — building a record of every round you’ve ever played. Legal basis: performance of a contract.

Location

The app may request access to your device’s GPS to show your position on the map and help you find nearby courses. Your coordinates are used locally on your device only — we never transmit or store your location on our servers. Legal basis: your consent, given when you grant location permission on your device.

Analytics and crash reporting

We use two third-party tools to keep the app working well:

PostHog (analytics)

We use PostHog to understand how people use Pinly — things like how often rounds are started, completed, or abandoned. Events are tied to an anonymous identifier, not your name or email. PostHog processes this data on servers in the EU. No personal information is sent as part of analytics events. Legal basis: legitimate interests in improving the reliability and quality of the service.

Sentry (error reporting)

When the app crashes or encounters an unexpected error, we send a report to Sentry so we can fix it. These reports contain technical details (stack traces, device OS version) but not your name, email, or any account data. PII capture is explicitly disabled. Legal basis: legitimate interests in maintaining service stability.

How we share your data

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. The only third parties who receive any data are PostHog and Sentry, acting as processors under our instruction, as described above.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and round data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all of your data — including every round you’ve recorded — is permanently deleted from our systems. This cannot be undone.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict how we process it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe we have handled your data unlawfully — ico.org.uk.

The easiest way to delete your account and all associated data is directly in the app: go to Profile → Account settings → Delete account.

For any other requests, email privacy@pinly.golf and we’ll respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes we’ll notify you in the app.
